谭教授是国际脑科学领域大脑语言功能区“文化特异性理论”(Culture-specific Theory)的主要创立者。其团队的研究成果为脑损伤病人手术前的语言功能区的临床诊断提供了重要科学根据,经济和社会效益显著。

最早利用功能磁共振成像技术研究语言(特别是中文)的学者之一。

项目

先后主持和负责香港研究资助局项目、国家科技部重点基础研究发展计划项目(973项目)、深圳市海外高层次人才孔雀团队“脑疾病与语言功能保护”等。

2012年主持“973”项目,成为香港地区首位任该类项目首席科学家的学者。

2005年主持建立脑与认知科学国家重点实验室(香港大学)并任实验室主任。
