纽伯瑞儿童文学奖

纽伯瑞儿童文学奖（Newbery Medal），又称纽伯瑞奖。1922年，由美国图书馆学会（American Library Association - ALA）的分支机构—— 美国图书馆儿童服务学会(Association for Library Service to Children - ALSC)创设了纽伯瑞儿童文学奖（The Newbery Medal for Best Children's Book）。每年颁发一次，专门奖励上一年度出版的英语儿童文学优秀作品。^[1][2]

纽伯瑞儿童文学奖（Newbery Medal），又称 纽伯瑞奖。1713年，纽伯瑞出生在英国农家。他是自学成才的儿童文学作家和出版家。1744年他编写并出版了世界上第一本专门的、价格低廉的儿童书——《美丽小书》；他开办了世界上第一家专门的儿童读物印刷厂、世界上第一家专门的儿童书店，从此他不断改进，印刷发行了许多精美的儿童图书，深受儿童喜欢，由于他打破当时保守的风气，崇尚的“快乐至上”的儿童教育观念，开辟英美儿童文学之路，所以后人称纽柏瑞为——儿童文学之父，纽柏瑞的贡献对于儿童文学，可以说是个重要的里程碑。

为了表彰和纪念纽伯瑞在艰苦卓绝中对欧美儿童文学的开创之功，1922年，由美国图书馆学会（American Library Association - ALA）的分支机构—— 美国图书馆儿童服务学会(Association for Library Service to Children - ALSC)创设了纽伯瑞儿童文学奖（The Newbery Medal for Best Children's Book）。
