叶菊石

叶菊石（学名：Phylloceras）是一种生存在侏罗纪早期至白垩纪晚期的海洋生物，属于头足纲叶菊石目。其化石遍布全球，尤其在西欧地区较为常见。叶菊石种类繁多，因形状像枫叶而得名。通常，叶菊石分为晶体菊石和化石菊石，晶体通常是指在侏罗纪早期的化石。

叶菊石的体型小至中等，壳结构紧压内旋，骨缝突出褶边，壳表平滑，仅装饰有简单的生长线。孔眼微微有点弯曲。其流线型的外壳和圆腹使其能通过喷射水流的方式在水中以中等速度游动。

叶菊石的显著特点是晶体白色透明，化石偏黑，且上面有许多有规律的枫叶。

有些收藏者会把鹦鹉螺（新生&未命名）和驰菊石误认为是叶菊石，其实这是错误的。鹦鹉螺通常是螺旋形，而驰菊石是涡形，都不是叶状。而叶菊石也会被误认为是风神菊石与克里翁菊石，区别方法是看菊石的壳，叶菊石的壳没有壳饰，壳表光滑，风神菊石与克里翁菊石壳凹凸不平。
